Wisconsin Great Northern |
Description: |
A couple of locomotives at the Wisconsin Great Northern Railroad excursion train facility. The WGN runs multiple types of excursions ranging from site seeing to dinner trains to overnight bed and breakfast trains. There does not seem to be an official AAR reporting mark assigned to the railroad either. The most official appearing reporting mark is listed on a government document showing the railroad to be WGNS. The document also notes that there are some variations to what the actual railroads us, which would explain the WGN reporting mark used on the 862's cab. The Wisconsin D.O.T. Wisconsin Railroads and Harbors 2017 edition map shows the railroad listed as WGN. The map shows only operating freight railroads, which includes the WGN line. |

One way for tourist train businesses to make some money is to store cars. The Wisconsin Great Northern appears to have picked up some of this business storing tanks. |

A short train heads toward Adams on the former CNW Adams line at MP 246. The train has just passed under the wooden Inglehart Road bridge. Also visible before the curve in the track, is the masonry arch bridge that takes the railroad over Kowald Road. |

Description: |
A CN local sorts cars in an ancillary yard while servicing an industrial park sandwiched between North Packerland Drive and Interstate 41. This part of the CN was once Green Bay and Western territory heading out of Green Bay across Wisconsin. This is as far as it goes from Norwood yard now. There are quite a few customer in this park to service. |

Before the CN tore out the former CNW yard along Pioneer Drive, this was a common sight. Unfortunately, the yard is gone. The covered hoppers are now stored and sorted on a run around track at the end of the spur which was used to serve Pluswood. Pluswood has closed during the summer of 2017. Pluswood was a user of boxcars, leaving only one company (Noffke Lumber) on the CN in Oshkosh that would possibly get boxcars. Seeing boxcars on the local in Oshkosh will be a rare sight in the future. It is truly astounding how much rail infrastructure has been torn out of Oshkosh since 1970, along with the businesses it served. |
