Valley Cast
This factory originally made wire for Appleton Wire to weave into large, fine mesh belts upon which paper is made. With the paper industry switching to using mainly monofilament belts in the 1970's, Appleton Wire sold this off and it became Valley Cast. It has changed ownership and names numerous times, but has been Valley Cast more than once. That is the name most people know it as. Valley Cast has a second plant along the rails of the Kimberly Subdivision, in Kimberly. This plant in Appleton once had two railroad spurs. One of the spurs ran into the middle of the facility through the gate on the right side of the photo. The other spur ran along the north side of the building, to the left. Valley Cast received many different types of metals for the alloys that were made in the foundry and drawn into wire. I know of boxcars full of shell casings from the military, copper plate and even foreign coins to be melted down. The spurs to this plant are torn out since the 1990's.
