Chicago and Northwestern Depot
The Milwaukee, Lakeshore and Western was the second railroad to reach Wausau. It arrived in 1880. In 1882, the railroad was bought by the Chicago and Northwestern. In 1899, the CNW built this station to provide service to its growing business in the area. The light colored siding on each end of the station appears to be the result of enclosing the open end platforms. Earlier photos show the same roof line, but with open ends. The bridge in the foreground is spanning the slough, viewing from the east side of the river. The line is currently operated by the Canadian National.
