IC 9625
Title:  IC 9625
Description:  The former Anheuser Busch malting plant in Manitowoc is visible as the 9625 moves in to pick up a cut of cars. The 176 silo facility was closed by Anheuser Busch and sold off. Riverland Ag, of Ceres Global Ag, used the facility for grain storage until this past March when the facility was purchased by Briess Malt and Ingredients. Briess will make Manitowoc a malting facility again.

Title:  IC 9625
Description:  The CN Manitowoc crew has come to a small yard near the former Anheuser Busch malting facility to pick up a cut of covered hoppers. Adjacent to the malt plant yard is another small yard that at one time served the S.S. Badger car ferry crossing Lake Michigan. The Badger still steams the lake, but not with railcars.

CN 9625
Title:  CN 9625
Description:  A Menasha/Neenah switch job getting ready to head up the Manitowoc sub to switch some industries in the area. The train is still in the Neenah sub on the north end of the former Soo Line yard in Neenah. Winneconne Avenue overpass is seen just to the rear of the train. Back when this overpass was an at grade crossing, it was a nice spot to watch the action. Well, I guess it still is, just different.

GTW 6221
Title:  GTW 6221
Description:  A gap in the cars on the yard tracks in Neenah allows a peek at the congregated power in front of the depot. This is the former Soo Line (WC) yard in Neenah. A lot of locals work out of this yard, though the traffic has diminished over the last couple decades as the paper mills are being lost to closure. Fortunately, there have been some new businesses come along to fill some of the void.

IC 9625
Title:  IC 9625
Description:  Thirty five years ago, this was the Soo Line yard in Neenah. The yard was usually quite full and bustling with activity. The Soo seemed to be the most prosperous railroad of the three serving the area. (Milwaukee Road and Chicago and Northwestern being the other two) Naive thinking had one believe the Soo would be around forever. The Milwaukee Road was up for sale, and would be gone, but not the Soo. The CNW also figured to be around for a long to come. It was only a matter of less than ten years for all three to be gone. Of the two yards in town, only the Soo Line yard remains serving close to its original purpose. There are many less boxcars, and the Soo white, red and black a fading memory. Back in 1982, a teenage rail fan, took it all for granted and would have never imagined the CN coming in and absorbing it all.
