CN 2820 |
Description: |
A CN stack train heads north at Oshkosh. The train is approaching a bridge over a ditch/creek that empties into Lake Winnebago. This former C&NW line had a great deal more local business to attend to 30 years ago, but under the CN train volume has increased significantly. The local customer base has diminished but the CN has transformed this line into part of its trans-con line to Chicago and beyond. Through freight volume can be quite high with trains following as close as 5 to 10 minutes apart at times. |

Title: |
CN 2820 |
Description: |
A CN stack train storms over a bridge on the south side of Oshkosh. Trains run along this corridor parallel South Main at speeds around 30 MPH. The modern Wisconsin Central and the city worked to increase train speeds and safety through Oshkosh after the WC purchased the Fox River Valley Railroad. Grade crossings were closed, the old Soo Line (WC) route through town was pulled up, gates were installed at all grade crossings and a no horn order (not what I would consider a safety enhancement) was put into effect. There are some nice areas along this stretch of the line to watch the trains while enjoying some of Oshkosh's park land. |
