Title:  Western Spans Across the Wisconsin
Description:  These plate girder spans bridge the main part of the Wisconsin River above the dam in Wausau. This bridge once carried the CNW main from Green Bay to Marshfield. The track is now a branch that truncates just outside Wausau to the west for the CN.

Crossing from Barkers Island to the West
Title:  Crossing from Barkers Island to the West
Description:  A typical Chicago and Northwestern truss between Barkers Island and the west bank of the Wisconsin River. This line is an industrial spur that branched off the main just before both crossed the slough. This spur ends at Graphic Packaging International. Judging from how the rails are kept clear of obstacles, Graphic Packaging may still receive rail service in 2017.

Title:  CNW Passenger Station in the Heart of the City
Description:  Looking east from the west bank of the Wisconsin River at the 1899 built CNW station. The station is uniquely located on an island, just below the downtown area. This line was once a mainline from Green Bay to Marshfield and on to St. Paul/Minneapolis. It now ends just outside Wausau to the west of town at an industrial park.

CNW Crossing of Duck Creek
Title:  CNW Crossing of Duck Creek
Description:  If one wanders around in the Howard Dog Park, they may find themselves looking at the old CNW line north out of Green Bay. Looking generally north along the tracks, the old swing bridge is visible across Duck Creek. Just past the creek is Riverview Drive. A little further down, at the grade crossing with the cantilevered signals, is Lakeview Drive. Just beyond Lakeview, the track curves to the right, heading closer to true north, running to Michigan's Upper Peninsula, via Marinette. Years ago, there was also a line that diverged to the left, approximately where the tan and green sign can be seen under the cantilevered signal head. This line ran to Marshfield via Shawano and Wausau. It is now the Mountain Bay State Bike Trail.

Former CNW Main Across the Fox River in Menasha
Title:  Former CNW Main Across the Fox River in Menasha
Description:  Looking across the Fox River in Menasha from Doty Island. This bridge was once the CNW "Airline" main from Milwaukee to Green Bay via Fond du Lac and the Fox Cities. The bridge now serves as a link along an industrial spur serving Neenah Paper, the Forest Island warehouse and Chemtrade (formerly General Chemical) on Doty Island. There is potential for additional customers to come on line, there are some vacant factory buildings, not too far out of shape along the line. The closed Whiting Paper mill smokestack is visible off the far end of the bridge.

C&NW Bridge Across the Fox River
Title:  C&NW Bridge Across the Fox River
Description:  A look at the former Chicago and Northwestern bridge across the Fox River in Menasha. The line is now a CN industrial spur that serves Neenah Paper and Chem Trade. This bridge is not to be confused with the "long bridge" which the C&NW used to cross LittleLake Butte des Morts which was formed by damming the Fox in Appleton. The "long bridge" is about a quarter mile further along the line, as heading into the photo. The "long bridge" no longer sees rail traffic as it is now a recreational trail. The trains do use the causeway that led to the long bridge to switch the Sonoco US Paper mill. The view is looking north across the Fox from Doty Island.

Description:  A look at the southwest corner of the old CNW freight house located on Broad Street in Oshkosh. The station was once located at the "T" intersection of Northwestern Avenue and Broad Street, but Northwestern Avenue has been stopped short of Broad Street to provide space for a parking lot.

Former CNW Station
Title:  Former CNW Station
Description:  A look at the former CNW station from the southwest corner as it was in the spring of 2017. The freight house is a little rough but the main part of the station is kept in good repair. The property is occupied by Clarity Care and they do a decent job keeping it up.

CNW Swing Bridge
Title:  CNW Swing Bridge
Description:  A more recent look at the old Chicago and Northwestern swing bridge across the navigation canal on the east end of the "flats" of Appleton along the Fox River. The bridge still looks as interesting as ever. It's a shame the track in the flats has been almost completely removed, a sign of the manufacturing facilities closing.

Description:  Looking back down the branch line toward Appleton Junction from the Newberry Trail. A look at the top of the trees on the right shows the smokestack for Neenah Paper, the last business with a railroad spur. They get boxcars spotted at the mill. They have a second track that once received tank cars, but have not used that spot for at least a decade.

Description:  On the north end of the plate girder deck bridge that gave the CNW access to the large Consolidated Paper Corporation Interlake Division mill in Appleton is a short pile timber trestle which connected the steel bridge to the track on the land itself.

Description:  Another look at the CNW bridge used to gain access to the large Consolidated Paper Corporation mill in Appleton. The mill was closed 19 November 1982. Across the one can witness the redevelopment of the river from manufacturing to residential and commercial.

Plate Girder Deck Bridge to Former Consolidated Paper Mill
Title:  Plate Girder Deck Bridge to Former Consolidated Paper Mill
Description:  A look at a former CNW bridge that was once used to serve the Consolidated Paper Company's Interlake Division. The site was located where John Street once crossed the Fox River and the Number 3 Dam is situated. The John Street bridge was removed in the late 1950's and was replaced by the College Avenue bridge, which soars 75' above the water. The paper mill in question was originally named Manufacturing and Investment Company which was a pulp and paper mill started up in 1891. It took the place of a strawboard mill built by Richmond Brothers in 1857. By 1901, the Manufacturing and Investment Company became Interlake Pulp and Paper Company. Interlake was then purchased by Consolidated Paper in 1916. It remained a part of Consolidated Paper as it's Interlake Division Appleton mill until its closure on 19 November 1982. Magcobar North America, part of Dresser Industries Inc. started to lease a small portion of the facility in December 1982. They used part of the closed paper mill's facility to process drilling fluids. Dresser was still using the facility in 1993, but has ceased production there in at least the last decade. The mill site has mostly been razed and redeveloped into trendy shops, boutiques and townhouses. This bridge is located off the line that runs to Kimberly and Combined Locks, branching off that line a few hundred feet after crossing the navigation canal swing bridge. The swing bridge is still used and is visible to the rear of the plate girder bridge. The bridge crosses from the south east river bank onto an "island" formed by the mill race (forefront water) and the navigation canal, which has a lock located at the mill site. Beyond that, is the Number 3 Dam. the rails have been removed and there is hope of incorporating this bridge and a few others in the "Flats" into recreational trails.
